Ann Huffman pioneered the development of these innovative brass filament brushes. These encaustic brushes are handmade, one at a time, by Lisa Lesczinski, a skilled artisan. Lisa uses solid brass filaments and sets them in brass ferrules and handles. Brass construction makes these brushes very heat durable and will allow greater control and longer working time in the painting process. Enkaustikos offers two series of brass filament brushes: Classic Brushes and Hot Brush Attachments. Also known as the "Cold Brush", this handcrafted brush is designed for the traditional encaustic artist who prefers to work with molten wax paint on a heated palette. This brush is capable of building textures very quickly. Typically, the brass filaments rest directly on the hot palette or in the molten wax color when in use, while the handle rests off the hot palette, so that it remains cool. The filaments will absorb and retain heat, increasing your paints working time. Many contemporary encaustic artists find the Classic Brush ideal for use with a hot air assist technique. Pictured to the left is the Bright line of our classic brushes. The picture above shows sizes 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and size 1 in our Classic Brights. The tips are shown at approximately actual size. The handles on the Classic Brushes average 6 inches long. These brushes are sold individually, all sizes are shown so that you can compare sizes.
