The Enkaustikos professional line of wax paint has been manufactured in Western New York since 1996. We use U.S. Pharmaceutical Grade Beeswax, which is chemical and bleach free, and the highest grade of Damar Resin to make the base of all our wax paints. To this base we add only the finest, artist grade dry pigments. These pigments are lightfast and engineered to withstand the heat requirements of the encaustic process without color shifts. Our milling operation is the ultimate paint making system, utilizing advanced technology. It is capable of shearing pigment to the smallest particle size resulting in our ability to manufacture a paint that is richer, creamier, cleaner, and more vibrant, while bringing out the true personality of each paint.
We recommend heating our wax paints between 150 and 175 degrees F to prevent burning and to offer optimum working characteristics.
Enkaustikos paints are sold in 1 fluid ounce disks which measure approximately 2 inches in diameter and are 1/2 inch thick. If you buy 16 fl ounces you will receive 16 disks. This makes it easier and quicker to melt only what you need and much easier to dispense in the classroom or workshop.
Since 1996 Enkaustikos has manufactured and sold paints directly to encaustic artists through Fineartstore.com. Today, so many artists have discovered the uniqueness and versatility of wax painting that it has grown into a mainstream medium. Retail stores across the US, Canada and all the way to Australia are now carrying Enkaustikos paints. Most of these stores will special order paints for you in any size or color and save you the shipping expense.
