Nepalese Papers
Nepalese paper is most often made from lokta fiber; a sturdy fiber that comes from the bark of lokta plants. Artisans in Nepal collect the bark, soak it in water to soften it, and then blend the bark down into paper pulp. Each sheet is made entirely by hand and set to dry outside in the sun. Every step of making lokta paper is done by hand; even the coloring of each individual sheet is done by hand, as is the application of screen prints. Some papers are even hand painted or hand batik. Whichever sheet you choose, it is a true work of art created by expert craftsmen and women.
