Handmade Unison Pastels by John Hersey... Unison pastels are the creation of artist John Hersey. From a converted coach house in Northumberland, England, his wife, son and a small band of artisans lovingly carry on John’s legacy making Unison pastels by hand, cutting no corners, accepting no compromise. They make small batches of 100 to 200 pastels at a time. Each stick is hand rolled and allowed to air dry. This produces a soft pastel which is eager to embrace the tooth of your drawing paper. There is richness, smoothness, and an intensity you will find nowhere else. John Hersey observed from nature that a single color takes on endless variations of hue, depending on the quality of light that strikes it. Unison colors flow from nature itself, seducing the eye with its power.
