Bark & Papyrus Papers
These papers are made in a very non-traditional way. They actually
utilize bark and plant fibers in their raw form instead of being made up
of processed paper pulp. Amate Bark Papers are made in Mexico, using
bark that is soaked and then pounded flat to create a sheet. Papyrus is
made in Egypt, using centuries old techniques where the papyrus plant is
stripped down, woven, and dried into a sheet. These gorgeous, "woody"
sheets make beautiful substrates for gouache and acrylic painting. They
are also superb for collage, lamp shades, paper sculpture, bookmaking
arts, and scrapbooking.
